Right of way? or Right of lot?

I hope someone might be able to read this.

I live in a rural place the deed of sale of which we do not yet have.
Now the DPWH is concreting our road for which we are happy.
As expected, the need to widen the road is necessary for concreting convenience.
We were informed that part of our lot (which happened to be nearby the road) will covered by the widening.
What happened was, almost half of my home's lot is taken (which I did not expect); and as of now, I no longer have a lawn!
I think to myself this is too much, and from a professional's perspective, taking that large piece of my land for widening cannot be justified.
Should I ask the concerned agency for compensation?
