Arresto Menor
Good day!

I need insight on this. A relative was hired in a known BPO company. He was then put on probation for six months and had been given a contract bond. He was on the sixth month when he was terminated.

He did not contest this as he knew he had lapses such as overbreaks, tardiness, absences due to fatigue and even  using his mobile phone during working hours. He accepted this without question asked and even reported for a few more days at the company's behest.

He then processed his clearance, surrrendered his id and other company-issued materials. He asked if he had any financial obligation, he was assured that he was not liable for such.

Later, he emailed the hr and asked about his back pay. He was then notified that he has an oustanding  debt amounting to more than Php 100,000. He was dumbfounded obviously and thus related his situation to family and asked for advice.

Hence the questions:

Is this bond thing even legal?

If so, is it lawful to demand such staggering amount when they had him terminated?

What is the best course of action as he received demand letters already?

Thank you.

We need to see the text of the contract first.

The bond may be legal, and may be presumed to be binding since it is signed by both parties.
