is it legal to make backup of your legally own purchased UMD for PSP. I would like to play it and copy on my PSP memory rather than UMD. Because I want to preserve my UMD. I heard about fair use or limitation of copyright. Is it copyright infringement if I do so?

this is still a gray area in law. to my mind, it should be legal, but your use may be limited by the EULA.

My friend opinion is that the DMCA cannot apply to the Philippines because, following the principle of criminal territoriality in international law, the DMCA is a U.S. federal law that can apply only in the U.S.

He said also that it is legal to copy for one back up purpose regarless of its restriction.

for criminal law, that is correct. but whether it is unlawful, our own IP laws are not very clear on this.

it is one thing to make a back up umd, but another to modify so you can use an iso image. again, my stand here is if you bought a copy, then they should have no problem against doing that.

Thanks! My problem is that, How can I prove that I legally owned a copy of UMD Game if I lost the sales invoice of it. I still have the actual UMD game.

possession of the orig umd should be sufficient proof.

but please don't test this theory passing through international airport customs. i've heard of laptops being seized for having pirated software.
